Now you’re nervous. You’re thinking about every dollar you put into these cards. What if he never comes back the same? Should I sell now before it gets worse?
That emotional fire sale is the instinct a lot of collectors act on. But is this dip actually an entry point?
Today, we’re running the numbers to see if buying into a player’s cards shortly after a significant injury consistently leads to a profit by the time they return. We looked at three recent, hobby-impacting injuries across the major sports. As always, we’re using chrome refractors and silver prizms as our baseline.
